Nutrition & Fitness

Nutrition Program

Funded by the Older Americans Act, the Nutrition Program provides eligible older adults a nutritionally balanced meal at Senior Centers and various satellite sites. Meals are served by a network of providers located throughout A12AA’s Planning & Service Area. For a list of providers and dining sites, see Funded Partners. The primary target population for the nutrition program is adults age 60+, in Amador, Calaveras, Mariposa and Tuolumne Counties, who are in greatest social-economic need and would benefit from a nutritional meal.

Congregate Nutrition Program

The Congregate Nutrition Sites offer nutritional meals to adults age 60+ and their spouses. The Senior Centers offer socialization opportunities, exercise, and a variety of other life-enhancing programs.

Home Delivered Meal Program

To qualify for the Home Delivered Meal Program, a person must be age 60+ or the spouse of an age 60+ participant who resides within the PSA and has an impairment that would prevent attendance at a congregate nutrition center. To determine eligibility of a meals on wheels participant, an intake worker will contact the prospective participant and complete an assessment. If determined eligible, hot and/or frozen nutritional meals will be delivered to the older adult.  For more information contact Area 12 Agency on Aging, 800-510-2020 or 209-532-6272.

Balance, Strength, and Mobility Programs

The goal of the balance, strength and mobility programs is to provide seniors with the education and tools needed to lead healthy lives and reduce fall risk.  Yoga, Strength Training, Pilates & Barre, and Fall Talks are some of the classes offered. Classes are geared for adults age 60+.

Registration is required and obtained through Area 12 Agency on Aging.  For more information call Area 12 Agency on Aging, 800-510-2020 or 209-532-6272.

These services are available at no cost.  Voluntary contributions are accepted, however, no eligible individual will be denied services because of an inability to contribute.
